Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint (1622 Highland Avenue, James Island)

The Town of James Island and Charleston Moves are hosting a fun, free and interactive community event for the Rethink Folly Road initiative, which aims to transform the corridor into a vibrant, welcoming public space that is safe and accessible for all modes of transportation. The event is Wednesday, May 10 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint (1622 Highland Avenue, James Island).

Representatives from the Town of James Island, City of Charleston and Charleston County will walk the public through the Rethink Folly Road plan, Phase I progress, as well as the scope and opportunities provided with Phases II and III. Rethink Folly Road Steering Committee members will also be present. Additionally, Charleston County will provide updates on active transportation projects on James Island and Folly Beach, and Charleston Moves will have action items for the public to engage on, as well as information on their Mobility Month 2023 program.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the complete streets project and help shape future designs for the corridor. A complimentary buffet-style dinner will be provided for those who participate.

Learn more about the plan at RethinkFollyRoad.com. This event is part of Charleston Moves’ Mobility Month 2023 program, sponsored by Faison, LeGrand Elebash, Morrison Yard Residences and Smithey Ironware Company, with event-specific support from Folly Beach Chair Company. The Town of James Island is a beautiful, unique island in South Carolina with a rich history and bright future. Nestled amongst the deep blue waters of the Charleston Harbor and the meandering Stono and Folly Rivers, James Island boasts scenic marsh views and a plethora of majestic trees. Once covered in farmland, James Island is now primarily a residential community that has somehow managed to protect that small-town feel its residents and visitors know and enjoy.

Charleston Moves is a mobility advocacy nonprofit that works to transform our roadways and bridges into safe, connected and equitable spaces for all, allowing the community to choose among many safe ways to travel. Progress is people-powered!
